According to Marcus Thompson of the San Jose Mercury-News, “Stephen Curry will not play in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil and he may not be the only Warriors star to opt out. According to multiple sources, Curry has already told USA Basketball he will not be playing for a gold medal. He will instead let his right knee heal.”

This is good news for Damian Lillard, who was added As Finalist For 2016 U.S. Olympic Men’s Team back in February of 2016. Lillard expressed that he wanted to continue to be a part of the Team USA program, and with Curry sitting out, this definitely improves his chances of making the final squad. He will be competing against other prominent point guards, such as Mike Conley, Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, Jon Wall, and Chris Paul.
