Portland biggest chance of an increase is from Harkless (if they keep him), Vonleh, Montero, Plumlee or Davis getting better. We know what we are going to get from Dame, CJ and for the most part Aminu and Turner. That leaves the young guys developing or players like Plums and Ed adding something to their games.

Now that Kevin Durant has gone with the, “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” approach, the rest of the West must be wondering what’s the point of the season. The Warriors just added Durant to a team that won 73 […]

He certainly would be less expensive and he was on that championship team although it was a fairly small contribution compared to Gasol’s actual production on the court. It’s just tough to accept that much of what is left is someone of Ezeli’s limited ability and experience or Gasol’s 36 solid but extremely aging contributions.

The new salary cap has been set at $94,143,000. Ever feel like you were in the wrong business or wish you were taller? The minimum salary cap is 90% of that number ($84,729,000). Portland spent a large part o […]

Cole has generated so little buzz that I had to stop somewhere. If Portland hadn’t seen him in the Playoffs, I wonder if he would be mentioned much in Portland either.
As for Williams, a couple of the rankings list I used had him so far down that I just didn’t put him in. He might very well be an Olshey kind of ‘off the rack’ signing if you can…[Read more] -

The Free Agency cavalcade of Salary Cap dollars begins its overflowing waterfall of financial ferocity Friday morning at midnight. There are only so many ‘top tier’ players available and maybe using a plural […]

Of course, you didn’t mention either of my preferred plan D options, Cole Aldrich and Marvin Williams.

I agree that is seems unlikely and I’m still stuck with the feeling the Blazers end up being the bridesmaid and not the bride but maybe there should be some consolation that Portland is even in the discussion which has not been the case in most off-seasons.

As I posted yesterday on S2 would be happening this morning, I was able to have a conversation with someone who has been very plugged into the NBA for a number of years and whose opinion I greatly respect. It […]

Gotta say, as nice as it would be to see a marquee free agent actually choose the Blazers, I would honestly be shocked if Whiteside chose Portland over LA and Miami (and Dallas, if some reports are to be believed). Hopefully my coworkers will be forced to use the office defibrillator on me this coming Friday, because a Whiteside signing in Portland might literally give me a coronary.

The fact that Whiteside has never reached his first mega payday is concerning to me, will he get comfy and fall off like so many other flash in the pans before him? In this comparison, at least Dwight Howard has something to prove. Should be interesting to see how they progress regardless of where they end up…

Larry Mathis commented on the post, Bucks rumored to be shopping Greg Monroe – Blazers a potential destination? 7 years ago
With him basically on a 1-year contract, I wouldn’t give up much more than cap space and either Plumlee or Davis. Then a defensive minded center is needed unless you think Meyers comes back at his best position of a stretch-5. Leonard is much better defensively as a ‘5’ than a ‘4’ but then Monroe would have to guard the PF and stretch-4’s.

I’m guessing if they could get someone like any of the players above, you do that every chance you get. Olshey strikes me as having the Draft be his biggest strength….more so than trades.

Isn’t drafting a player in the second round potentially going backwards at this point for the Blazers? I guess that’s the calculated risk you take. Good thing Olshey is the puppet master.
