Blake Griffin was bought out by the Detroit Pistons Friday after they failed to find a trade. There are a number of NBA teams who are said to be interested in Griffin and are expected to pursue him, including the Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat.
Griffin will make his decision after talking to each of the teams that are interested.
The Blazers could sign Griffin to vet minimum, but it is not clear how much he would help Portland. Yes, he would give the Blazers size, but Griffin is not the all star caliber player he was a few years ago.
Multiple knee injuries have hampered Griffin and have seriously limited his game. He is only averaging 12.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists on career low 36% shooting from the field and 31% shooting from three. He hasn’t dunked a basketball in 2 seasons.
A new team could revitalize Griffin some, but he is not and will never be the player he used to be. The Nets seem to be in the lead in acquiring him.
Neil Olshey drafted Griffin back in 2010 when he was GM of the Clippers and Griffin is good friends with Carmelo Anthony. Griffin could pick Portland. Should Portland want that? Well, that is another question all together.
