The Mavericks will have a healthy Kristaps Porzingis along with Luka Doncic to start the season which will be a dynamic duo for seasons to come. The Mavericks resigned Seth Curry and signed center Boban Marjanovic which will help bulster the roster. They also signed Isaiah Roby, their 45th pick in the 2019 NBA draft, though he probably won’t have much of an immediate impact. The Mavericks have a handful of useful role players in Hardaway Jr, Lee, Powell, Finney-Smith, Jackson, and Kleber along with some lesser contracts. Assembled, these players make a sufficient – above average roster, that still feels incomplete. Dallas is in rebuild mode, and will likely only get better from here. But, where does that put them this season.

They are definitely better than western conference teams like Memphis, Phoenix, New Orleans, and perhaps a gutted Thunder team, but everyone else got better too, or stayed relatively the same, so while we will see Dallas climb 3 or spots in the west, they won’t be loads better, not yet. I hear a lot of people over estimating them, saying they will be in the run for the playoffs. It is possible, but not likely with so much talent in a packed west. While, I have perhaps underestimated them, I think this is pretty close to where they will end up in the standings at the end of the season.
