The NBA Champions are hurting. After going all in on Kawhi Leonard and winning it all in 2019, they were hoping the free agent star would resign with them, and defend the trophy. But, it wasn’t to be. Kawhi Leonard dragged on his decision deep into free agency before deciding to head home to the join the Los Angeles Clippers. He considered joining the Lakers, but didn’t want to be second fiddle next to Lebron. Either way, Drake and the Raptors are mourning the loss, because it means they likely won’t be repeating as champs. But, it could still be worse. Toronto could still be sitting with Lowry and DeRozan and no trophy. Did I mention they also lost Danny Green…ouch!

As it is, the Raptors are still good, just not as good…not nearly…like 12+ less wins good, but they still have a killer core in Lowry, VanVleet, Siakam, Ibaka, and Gasol. They will have Anunoby back who was out wit appendicitis during the playoffs. They also have newcomers Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Stanley Johnson, and Cameron Payne to help. Also undrafted Terence Davis, who is a more than decent catch.

There has been rumor this offseason that the Raptors would trade away Ibaka and Gasol in the least, and work to rebuild, but they could make a dent as is, if they keep the roster as is, and go after another big fish next summer. So, if they stay put they likely still be in the middle of the pack and headed to the playoffs.
